House Sparrow

House Sparrow Calling from Gutter
House Sparrow with Nest in Stone Wall
House Sparrow Calling from the Roof Top

For weeks now this chirpy little chap has spent every daylight hour plaintively tweeting (in the real sense!) from around the old farm.  He only seems to stop when he goes off to fetch more nesting material.

He has created two lovely nest sites high up in the walls of the garage and Little House but they have just not been good enough for the girls around here. There are lots of sparrows and fledglings under the guttering of the house, so unfortunately for this little chap he seems to have missed the boat this time around.  Maybe the girls wanted the males in the big house, not in the outbuildings.

As there are a number of fledgling House Sparrows around the house and garden at the moment I guess he may remain single this year unless he can attract a lady sparrow before the next broods are to be laid.

According to the Dorling Kindersley RSPB book of Birds, House Sparrows produce 1 - 4 broods a year so there may be hope yet for this little chap.
