Meteo.fr forecast that we were due a thunderstorm last night, so we didn't water our vegetable, strawberry and sunflower patches, hoping that nature would do the job for us. Looking out this morning it is clear that it hasn't rained, so it's off to give everything a good soaking.
We are careful in the amount that we water as we will only use collected rainwater. We have over 4000 litres of water butts so far and will add another 2 - 4000 litres over the next couple of weeks. It is an enormous amount but we have half a dozen mature fruit trees and we are growing lots of gourds, courgettes, cucumbers, peas, etc so when they start fruiting we will need to use a lot.

It is much harder work collecting the water off the roof and then moving it to where the plants are growing, but we feel that the effort is worthwhile. We don't think that it is ethical to use tap water as there is a lot of energy and chemicals used in extracting it from a borehole, treating it and then pumping it to our house.
