Deer Me

Strawberries plants after being eaten by deer
It's not only us that love strawberries. Judging by the hoof prints in the soft soil by the strawberry patch it looks like the deer do as well.

The only difference is that while we eat the fruit and leave the plant the deer spat out the fruit and devastated the leaves. What with the deer attacking them from above and the moles pushing them up from below it's a miracle that we get any fruit at all from them.

As townies in the countryside this is just another harsh lesson for us; the deer may look cute on wildlife programmes but in real life they can be a menace. Nonetheless, we don't want to stop them coming onto the land and around the house, we just need to prevent them destroying the plants that we want.
